Other ways to move during the working day

Our bodies are designed to move and we have different muscles and joint systems that allow for different types of movement in different planes. We were not designed to sit for long periods at a time - especially being still for as many as 10 hours each day.

This can result in our muscles, bones and joints feeling achy and stiff, feeling fatigued and in a low energy brain. Instead, move more to feel less stressed, fewer aches, more energised, happier and healthier

Ways you can incorporate movement into your working day

  1. Get off public transport/park your car further away from work to walk a bit more

  2. Take the stairs

  3. Walk on your lunch break

  4. Schedule a walking meeting

  5. Walk while you talk on a phone call

  6. Have a glass rather than a bottle for water so you get up more often to fill it

  7. Go speak to a colleague rather than email them

Ways you can remind yourself to move more during the working day

    1. Schedule movement breaks into your day

      2. Have visual movement reminders

    3. Buddy up with colleagues to move more

    4. Move between meetings

    5. Mnemonic approach - attach movement to tasks you already do
